2003
Tesla Motors founded in San Carlos California by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning.
2008
The original Tesla Roadster becomes the first highway legal electric vehicle to use lithium ion battery cells.
2012
Model S enters production at the Fremont Factory. Named Motor Trend Car of the Year in 2013.
2015
Model X launches with Falcon Wing doors and standard all wheel drive.
2017
Model 3 begins production. It becomes the best selling electric vehicle in history within two years.
2020
Model Y enters production. Tesla joins the S and P 500 index and becomes the most valuable automaker in the world.
2023
Cybertruck production begins at Gigafactory Texas after four years of development.
2024
Model Y named the best selling vehicle in the world for a second consecutive year.
2026
Next generation Roadster and dedicated robotaxi platform enter final validation.
